A day on the road-Monika & The ASS

An exclusive behind the scene look at what makes this MEGA production work!
Our day usually begins around 7.30am ( hey remember we're not as young as we once were) with Monika stocking up on pain killers for the knee while I take a huge slab of baby ointment & apply to my important nethea bits (I can hear you saying "way too much information"!
A daily 15 course breakfast soon follows (it's the only way Brits know how)supplying the 9-10 million calories needed for the constant climbing & descending in this supposedly flat country
We dress predictably for the weather ie; it's either raining, looks like rain or if it starts off sunny will more than likely rain sometime during the day.
Our planning team (me) meticulously maps a route based on directions, scenery & quiet roads. This planning usually has us lost within the first 2-3 hours of cycling.
We invariably stop for a cuppa late morning & lunch is most often on the run as the elements seems to conspire in keeping our average speed well down.
We know fatigue is setting in when we "blue" about something minor so have now started aiming for accommadtion around 6pm instead of the 8pm mark even if it means we are a little behind.
We're both taken to luxuriating in a hot bath following a long ride- for me this was preferable to beings scaled while trying to work out how to turn the damned shower on.
There's just enough time for dinner a catch up on E mails & blog before crashing into bed waking up next morning to do it all over again!
This is certaintly no holiday'

Good Comments Rock,
I especially like the breakfast, oh the memories. Perhaps the planning & logistics team should try one day flying by the seat of your pants perhaps from Newquay to Lands End. Well my friend, Rock like your wife as been confirmed of, you by carrying out this adventure, not only do you gain a life experience, but an after life one as well, because when the time comes you too have reserved a place in Heaven for your compassion and heartfelt generosity toward others, I salute you both. By the way old married couples do blue. don't they? well thats what happens in my house.
Good to hear your regressing with your hygiene now back in the land of smelly armpits, but languishing in hot water bath for so long you would leave a smelly tide mark. Oh how I love these postings and commenting.
SASAYA.

We in Oz want you both to know how inspired we are by your determination and commitment to complete this amazing 2000km journey in order to raise both awareness and funding to such a great group of people. To the editor and chief of this insightful journal, you should know we struggle to keep a straight face when reading about your more often than not, very eventful days!LOL. But mostly i love finding out that your both safe and well (in most parts)and that the finish line is nearer than it looks. We miss you and wish you both safe travel and pedalling.lol

Monika, it is my book launch today and I wish you were here.
We have had pretty cold weather and rain nearly every day but today is almost a heat wave! It is going to be a wonderful 17C and no rain!
The sunshine always makes things look so much better and hopefully it will dry up some of the mud that is around.
Looking at the map that Mick brought to PWP was very effective at showing just what an enormous trip you have done. How does it feel knowing that you are so close to the end?
love
Anne
